Septage Wastes
Human wastes from septic tanks, port-a-potties and vessel pumpouts are defined under Maine DEP law and regulations as "septage".DEP and Maine towns are required to regulate and track septage hauling, storage and landspreading using these online forms and applications. Septage is regulated by completely different rules from sewage sludge. It can be sprayed onto land, trucked to sewage treatment plants or pumped into septage holding facilities (lagoons). On June 30, 2003 the US EPA released the 2001 Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) Data. Information supplied includes On-site and Off-site Reported Releases (in pounds), for facilities in all industries, for all chemicals, in Maine, 2001.
